Article on gendered struggles in forest governance research

Based on interviews conducted for the In-Forest project, members of the team have published a qualitative analysis shedding light on how African scholars experience gendered struggles in doing governance research.



In-Forest talk at STI 2024 conference

September 26, 2024

As part of a panel on Open Data Sources, Prof. Nelius Boshoff presented preliminary results from a combined bibliometric and content analysis conducted as part of the In-Forest project at the 28th International Conference on Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators 2024 in Berlin. Ahead of the conference, the team held a hybrid meeting at the Robert K. Merton Center.

Contributions to first IUFRO gender analysis and MOOC on Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) in forest-related sectors

The Task Force ‘Gender Equality in Forestry’ of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations has published a first comprehensive gender analysis on this global scientific network and launched a Massive Open Online Course on Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) in forest-related sectors. As a member of the Task Force, Dr. Susanne Koch has contributed to both, drawing on her work in the In-Forest project.

Presentation at EASST-4S

July 23, 2024

PhD researcher Camilla Tetley presented at the 2024 EASST-4S conference in Amsterdam, Netherlands on Friday 19 July 2024. With the theme “Making and Doing Transformations”, the conference explored the role of STS in making and doing contributions to transformations in an era of grand societal challenges.

Bibliometric analysis on geographic inequalities in forest science

One of questions the In-Forest project addresses is how geographic inequalities manifest in forest science. Led by Prof. Nelius Boshoff at CREST, the team has now published a first paper resulting from a large-scale bibliometric analysis entitled “Geographical inequalities in global forest science: A bibliometric perspective” in Forest Policy and Economics.

In-Forest Workshop in Leiden, Netherlands

April 30th, 2024

From April 26-30th, members of the In-Forest team gathered at the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS), Leiden University, for a series of face-to-face and hybrid meetings. Hosted by Dr. Rodrigo Costas and Jonathan Dudek, they served as a space to collaboratively work especially on bibliometric data analyses as well as to continue refining and structuring the inquiries ongoing in the other work packages.

Joint Research Meeting in Stellenbosch, South Africa

For a week from 26 February to 1 March 2024, the members of the In-Forest team gathered in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Hosted by Prof. Nelius Boshoff (co-PI of the project) at the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST), Stellenbosch University, it served as the second fully in-person meeting for our research group.

Dr. Amani J. Uisso, senior scientist at the Tanzania Forestry Research Institute (TAFORI) and In-Forest Mercator Fellow, spent a week at the Centre for Research on Evaluation, Science and Technology (CREST) in Stellenbosch for joint research with Prof. Nelius Boshoff and Dr. Similo Ngwenya.
