In her presentation entitled “How inequalities manifest and are reproduced in forest research: empirical insights from a multi-method study”, she shared initial findings from the project with a focus on  the ethnography of research collaborations conducted as part of work package 2, which seeks to grasp how inequalities in global (forest) science are reproduced or counteracted by scientific practice. The talk aimed at stimulating exchange on how insights from empirical studies on forest research strengthen reflexivity among scholars engaged in the field.

Susanne’s presentation was followed by a vivid discussion among participants, most of whom carry out forest-related research using sociological perspectives and approaches at German academic institutions. The event was the kick-off for a new series of virtual meetings as part of the Sociological Forest Research Network that was formed at the first Sociological Forest Symposium held in Jena in December 2023.
